Research
Research plays a significant part of the mandate of the University of Ottawa’s Department of Surgery. Faculty members in the department’s seven divisions are involved in a wide range of basic-science and / or clinical research activities. For more detail about these research interests and projects, please visit the divisional webpages:
- Cardiac Surgery
- General Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Thoracic Surgery
- Urology
- Vascular Surgery
Among multi-departmental projects, the Department of Surgery is involved in a program of research in peri-operative care in conjunction with the Departments of Anesthesia and Medicine.
Surgical research also features prominently in our educational training. Surgical residents are required to engage in research projects, and each year the Department of Surgery holds an annual residents’ research day to support and recognize the best of those projects.
Our department also offers a surgeon-scientist program for residents who wish to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree in addition to their surgical residency program. For more information about our surgeon-scientist program, please click here.
