Case Scenarios from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) oversees the medical education of specialists in Canada. Part of their mandate includes teaching residents the professional role using clinical vignettes and objectives derived from the CanMEDS Physician Competency Framework. The vignettes are divided into 3 main categories: discipline-based objectives, personal-professional boundary objectives and objectives related to ethics and professional bodies. Each case is approached in a similar manner with a description of the case scenario, identification of professional issues raised by the situation, and possible resolutions. This approach not only highlights the values and attributes of professionalism, but encourages the reader to question unprofessional conduct within the health care team.
