Mission

The Research Office serves the medical research community by encouraging, facilitating and co-ordinating the maintenance and development of research activities in all sectors of the Faculty of Medicine. These sectors include the Basic Science Departments located in the Health Sciences Building and the University of Ottawa Affiliated Research Institutes located at the Teaching Hospitals.

The Research Office, in partnership with the University of Ottawa Research Services Office on main campus, advises researchers, postdocs and graduate students regularly of new funding opportunities (over 400 external sponsors), changes to existing programs, highlights upcoming competitions, and provides other pertinent information on medical research and funding issues. We also provide faculty members with administrative assistance in the development and implementation of research-related policies, lobbying and advocacy activities, statistical and analytical reports on medical research funding trends, public and media relations, development of policies involving ethical considerations, coordination of scientific educational activities for faculty members, review of existing research programs, industrial liaison and collaboration with other research institutions. We provide background support for the development of priorities and policies for the management of research both at the University of Ottawa's Affiliated Research Institutes and Affiliated Teaching Hospitals. We also co-ordinate the Medical Graduate Programs and Summer Studentship Program, and hold events to highlight excellence in research of students, post-docs and researchers.

Keep up to date with research at the University of Ottawa!

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine publishes a bi-monthly publication entitled "Perspectives" which highlights current medical research issues and events. "Perspectives" also recognises medical researchers, postdocs and graduate students who have received honours and awards. If you want to be kept informed of current medical news, click on "Perspectives" - you won't be disappointed!

The Office of the Vice-Rector Research has published "Progress through Knowledge", the first research brochure of the University of Ottawa. This brochure is a celebration of the achievements of the University in research, as a consequence of the creativity and innovation of faculty, students, and support staff. This office also publishes, once every two months, the University of Ottawa research newsletter, "Research Perspectives", launched in January of 1998. It serves to highlight the exciting and innovative developments in research at the University of Ottawa.
