Mobile Computer / iPad Labs

mobile labs

We have two different mobile labs available to reserve for faculty and staff of the Faculty of Medicine. The first is a mobile computing (laptop) lab containing 20 laptops, while the other is comprised of two mobile iPad carts containing 30 iPads each (2nd and 3rd generation).

Mobile computing lab

Our mobile computing lab contains 20 Dell laptops that were purchased in 2010. Each laptop contains:

  • Microsoft Windows 7
  • Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • SAS 9.3
  • Configured for wireless access

We can work with you if you require specialized software for your course or presentation. Typically free software can be installed with enough notice prior to your course or presentation. For commercial (paid) software, we will require proof of licensing and a copy of the software prior to proceeding with the installation.

Mobile iPad carts

Our state-of-the-art mobile iPad carts each contain 30 iPads (mix of 2nd and 3rd generation iPads) that are easily movable around Roger-Guindon Hall, CHEO and The Ottawa Hospital (General campus).

Our specialized environment allows us to tailor the iPads for your specific needs, such as:

  • Quizzes / surveys / exams (we are able to "lock down" the iPad in our evaluation application)
  • Locking the iPad into a specific application of your choice
  • Labs, workshops and presentations
  • "Pushing" free applications directly to all the iPads remotely

We can also work with you if you require specialized software or use of the iPads. We invite you to contact us for more information.

Reservations for both the mobile computing lab and iPad carts are on a first-come, first-serve basis. During the course of the year, both the mobile computing lab and iPad carts will be reserved for various examination purposes, which take priority over other reservations.

Please note that both the mobile computing labs and iPad carts must stay on premises (Roger-Guindon Hall, The Ottawa Hospital General Campus or CHEO) at all times and may not be transported to other locations. You are required to advise our staff if you are planning to use the mobile labs on the general campus or at CHEO.
