Committees
The Curriculum and Evaluation Committee
The Curriculum and Evaluation Committee was initially established in 2001 with the amalgamation of the existing Evaluation Committee and Academic Half Day Committee. In 2007, the terms of reference and committee membership was reviewed and updated. Committee minutes and terms of reference are available upon request.
The Committee is chaired by one of the Associate Program Directors (Dr. James Chan) and the membership includes resident representatives as well as Faculty representatives with specific interests and expertise in medical education. The primary responsibilities include ensuring that the educational objectives and training requirements of the Program are established and implemented, ensuring an effective in-training evaluation process, and continuing to evaluate the rotations within the Program and the participating faculty. This Committee meets once a month during the academic year from the months of September to June
The CTU Task Force
The CTU Task Force was created in 2007 to address and focus on issues related to the General Medicine CTUs and the General Medicine Consult services. Previously, issues related to the CTUs demanded a significant amount of time at the level of the Program Committee. This Task Force was developed to enable dedicated attention to necessary CTU issues as well as liberate time and energy at the Program Committee level.
The membership consists of all 4 Chief Medical Residents, voluntary Resident representatives from PGY1-3, and faculty representation from the CTU Site Directors/Division of General Medicine Service Chiefs and the Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine. During the 2008/2009 academic year this Task Force met on 3 occasions. The terms of reference for this Task Force are available upon request.
Resident Selection Committee
The Resident Selection Committee is organized by the Program Director under the auspices of the IMRTC to review all candidates applying for PGY1 positions through the CaRMS match. In the 2009 CaRMs match, we had 316 Canadian applicants for the Ottawa based program, 300 IMG applicants, 15 applicants for the NOSM Stream, and 9 applicants for the Montfort (Francophone) stream.
In order to manage this volume of applications, the Committee is made up of over 22 faculty members representing all Divisions within the Department of Medicine as well as the IMRTC. The selection process for recruiting PGY1 residents to the Internal Medicine Residency Program through the CaRMS match is completed each year using a well established procedure. This Committee has the responsibility for designing and implementing the selection process and determining a rank ordering of medical students applying to the program.
