Dr. Shailendra Verma is a medical oncologist at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, where he has practiced since 1985. He is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and is an adjunct research professor in the Institute of Neuroscience at Carleton University. With an academic specialty in breast cancer, melanoma and sarcoma, Dr. Verma has been a member or chair of the disease site groups for each of these areas at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center and at the provincial level. He has also been chair of the Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour Group for Eastern Ontario. Dr. Verma is a principal investigator in numerous research and educational projects at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and the Ottawa Regional Women’s Breast Health Centre. Dr. Verma has played an active role in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (Ontario Chapter) for 10 years, serving as vice chair, a member of the board, chair of its grant panels and several of its committees. Dr. Verma is proud of his role as a committed advocate on behalf of policy, research and treatment issues as they relate not only to those with breast cancer but to all patients with cancer.
