The following images are representative of the entire lesion.
What is the prognostic implication of the diagnosis?
Diagnosis:
Serous psammoma carcinoma (psammocarcinoma), low grade
Sections show an invasive serous carcinoma. In this specimen however, the criteria for a special type of low grade serous carcinoma, a psammoma carcinoma are met. These criteria include >75% of epithelial clusters being associated with psammoma bodies. Additionally, the neoplastic cells must show only low to moderate cytological atypia.
Psammoma carcinoma is a very rare form of low grade serous carcinoma with a favourable prognosis.
