Dr. Zuzana Kos

Resident PGY4

Case Two

Overview

Clinical history: This 57-year-old woman was being screened by means of fecal occult blood tests, 3 of which came back as positive. She was therefore referred for colonoscopy which revealed a large cecal mass, suspicious for carcinoma. An adenocarcinoma was confirmed by biopsy and she underwent a right hemicolectomy, seen here.

What is the subtype of this carcinoma? Why is the subtype significant in this patient in this location? What does the provided immunohistochemistry demonstrate? What is the treatment implication?
