Clinical history: 1 cm gastric polyp in a 56 year old female.
What is the most proable diagnosis?
Well-differentiated Neuroendocrine tumour
There are 4 types of gastric neuroendocrine tumours. Type 1, the most common type, usually presents as a small polypoid lesion. 70%-80% of patients are females in their 50s and 60s. Type 1 has a benign behavior as compared to other types. In this case, mitotic activity was low (1 mitotic figure in 10 HPF) and Ki-67 index was 2%. This represent G1 histologic grade. The neoplasm involved lamina propria in this case and did not measure more than 1 cm in greatest dimension and therefore was staged as at least pT1.
