What is your diagnosis?
Discussion and answer
Diagnosis: Septated hyphae most consistent with Aspergillus species
The specimen consists of blood, hepatocytes, inflammation and some fibrous material. There are septated fungal hyphae with branching at 45° suggestive of Aspergillus species. No evidence of malignancy is identified. Grocott stain performed on sections of the cell block confirmed the presence of septated hyphae most consistent with Aspergillus species.
