Clinical history: 60 year old female with mass lesion on screening mammogram.
What is the diagnosis?
Tubular carcinoma of the breast
Microscopically, we see infiltrating angular tubular structures, with open lumina. On higher power, these tubules show only a single cell layer with low grade atypia. For the diagnosis of tubular carcinoma, greater than 90% of the total lesion must have this histology.
Tubular carcinomas are often associated with flat epithelial atypia. These lesions are important to recognize as, similar to the previous case, they have a very good prognosis.
