Faculty of Medicine Awards of Excellence
Since 1990, the Faculty of Medicine Awards of Excellence recognize students, professors and support staff who have given evidence of outstanding achievement or contribution to the Faculty in research, scholarship, education or other contributions to the life of the Faculty.

These prizes can be given to teachers, administrators, as well as technical and support staff. Their purpose is to officially recognize the exceptional contributions of some of our employees who have distinguished themselves in the context of their work.

2008 Young Professor Award
The Young Professor Award is presented annually to an individual having completed no more than seven years as a Faculty member, and who has made outstanding contributions to research and education.

2008 Mentoring Award
This prize is given to a first-rate mentor who has coached, shouldered and encouraged students and colleagues in the areas of teaching, research, clinical work and administration.

2008 André Péloquin Memorial Award for Excellence in Clinical Education
The André Péloquin Memorial Award will go to an outstanding clinical educator in either the francophone or anglophone stream of undergraduate or postgraduate medical education. Having passed away in March of 2004, Dr. Péloquin was recognized by his colleagues for his great humanity and his devotion to his patients.

Dr. Jean-Yves Gosselin - Guest Speaker
Dr. Gosselin has been Emeritus Professor of the Department of Psychiatry with the Faculty of Medicine since 1996. A valued and respected mental health expert, he has had a much decorated career.
Among his many accomplishments and titles, Dr. Gosselin went on to become the President of the Association des psychiatres du Québec (1968 – 1971), the President of the Ontario Psychiatric Association (1986 -1987), the President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association (1992 – 1993), and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council on Health Facilities Accreditation (1983 – 1984). Dr. Gosselin was also the Chairman of the Committee to Review the Abuse of Psychiatry for Political Reasons at the World Psychiatric Association (1978 – 1985).
In addition to over 40 publications, numerous awards, and being a Major in the Medical Corps of the Royal Canadian Army, Dr. Gosselin is humble, generous, and highly respected by his peers.
Dr. Gosselin’s students express that he is a caring and compassionate physician; a teacher beyond medicine books who is a delight to work with.
