Counselling

The Office of Student Affairs offers a confidential counselling and referral service to undergraduate medical students, postgraduate students (residents) and graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. Students who are experiencing difficulty with stress related to personal and academic demands are encouraged to consult with a professional counsellor in Student Affairs.

Students consult for a variety of personal issues such as: stress, financial stress, couple and family relationships, grief and bereavement, conflict with peers/colleagues or instructors, parenting/caregivers, anxiety, depression, and other mental and physical health issues. Some students consult for coaching in areas of personal growth and development. We also have a comprehensive list of community resources. All sessions are confidential. No information is shared with any members of the Faculty of Medicine or anyone else except by written permission of the student, or as required by law. All case files are kept in a secure location within the Office for Student Affairs personal counselling office and are available only to the personal counsellors.

The Office of Student Affairs also offers support for students in terms of Wellness Programming, Career Counselling, and Financial Consultation.
