Academic Interviews
What:
Join us in an open discussion about academic interviews. This workshop is intended for postdocs who are planning to pursue jobs as primary investigators in a university or research institute. The panel members will answer your questions about the interview process: how to prepare, what to expect and how to maximize your chances of success. We have gathered a team of 5 panellists who are at different stages of their careers (senior/junior faculty and postdocs) to present their opinions and experiences on the subject.

What:
The very popular Pub night is comming back! It is the perfect occasion to come meet your fellow postdocs, learn about our association and discuss important issues concerning post docs in the Faculty or Medicine.
When:
Thursday, Sept 18th 2008, 5:30pm - whenever (an open meeting will start around 6:00 and last maybe for 30 min). When you arrive, order yourself a drink and/or a meal and hang out for a while!!
Where:
The Fox and the Feather Pub, 283 Elgin St. A section of the bar will be reserved for us. Ask for the area reserved for the Post-Doc Association. If it is nice out, We might try to book the patio area.
Who:
This event is open to ALL POST-DOCS!!!! We especially encourage new post-docs to come out and meet other colleagues from all of the campuses. At our last event, we had a huge turnout, so you can be sure to have a great time!!
Make sure that you bring along at least one other post-doc and we'll be sure to have lots of people. We would love to hear your point of view on what you're working on. Also, we are always looking for more volunteers to get involved in the associations activities (and it looks good on your C.V!!).
Info session/Panel discussion event
What:
This is the big event of the Fall 2008! We have a panel of three experienced supervisors (Drs. B. Jasmin, H. McBride, D. Park) that will present their views on postdoc life before (what they look for when hiring a postdoc), during (how to make the best out of our postdoc), and after (what they expect you to have gained from your postdoc experience when they are hiring new Faculty). This will last ~45 min and will be followed by a brief information session (10 min) where the pressing issues of the moment will be discussed (e.g. preparing for Tax season etc). Lastly you are invited to join us for some great complimentary food and socializing!
Who:
This event targets all postdocs as well as PhD students. The session is open to the general public and all are welcome.
When:
Friday October 31, 2008. The Panel discussion will start at 12:30 pm followed by the info session/social at 1:15 pm. Food will be available throughout.

Are you looking for courses/workshops to attend in 2008 to fulfill therequirements for the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies - Post-Doctoral Academic Program? If you are a P0ST-DOCTORAL FELLOW, it is important that you participate in a minimum of 10 hrs of such activities to be eligible to receive a T2202 form for your 2008 tax exemption status.
NOTE: New post-docs etc: WHIMIS and Radiation Safety training hours also count for the PDF Academic program, so make sure that you get your safety officer to sign your form and indicate the number of training hours.

What?
The Faculty of Medicine’s Postdoctoral Association will host a workshop addressing issues related to Research Integrity. Join us to discuss scientific integrity as it relates to postdoctoral fellows/assistants, who are in a critical phase of training preceding a full-time career as an academic researcher. A panel of speakers will discuss university and research institutes’ views and policies regarding research integrity. We will also present in detail examples of honest data presentation, using widely accepted models that guide scientists in preparing their data for publication.
