Introduction to Diagnostic Imaging / Radiological Sciences
Diagnostic Radiology recognizes two distinct levels of training in the undergraduate student group.
Objectives for 3rd Year Students:

Objectives for 4th Year Students:
To gain a basic understanding of how to look at images;
- To gain an insight into the cost effective use of imaging resources in patient diagnosis and treatment;
- To understand what patients experience during radiological procedures;
- To gain insight into the practice of radiology as a possible career alternative.
Description of Elective Program for 4th Year Students
Our elective program is a popular program both locally and within Canada. A typical elective program for a student would be 2 (or 3 weeks). During this time the student will rotate through a variety of radiology modalities.
Our preceptors are patient and knowledgeable as well as skillful in their teaching methods. The individuals are also encouraged to attend the Academic ½ day that our Residents attend in addition any of the Noon Hour and Radiology Grand Rounds that are scheduled during their attendance.
The two-week elective is designed for 4th year students. During this period, students will spend time at either the Ottawa Hospital General or Civic campuses. The emphasis is on small group learning and includes seminars, didactic teaching, attendance at departmental and interdepartmental rounds, attendance at special examinations and procedures and case discussions. There is exposure to all modalities including Ultrasound, C.T., M.R.I., Nuclear Medicine and Interventional Radiology. Audiovisual materials are available for small group learning as well as the regular departmental teaching collection for reference.

These applications are processed in the order in which they are received and at no time may an undergraduate student contact the preceptors directly.
