Biography: Pediatric Radiology

Dr. N. Abdeen

Dr. Nishard Abdeen, CHEO

Dr. Nishard Abdeen is a pediatric radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Dr Abdeen joined the Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in July 2010. He completed a 1-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at CHEO and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at the University of Ottawa

His academic work focuses on pediatric radiology with special interest in body MR.

His research work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on radiation protection in CT and applications of DWI and DTI in pediatric MR. He is also the Radiation Protection Safety Officer of our department.

Dr. J. Davila

Dr Jorge Humberto Davila Acosta, CHEO

Dr Jorge Humberto Davila Acosta was born in Peru, where he completed his medical school (Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia) and Radiology residency training (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos). After completion of his Radiology residency training, he received a one-year scholarship for Diagnostic Neuroradiology training in Zaragoza, Spain, sponsored by the Sociedad Iberolatinoamericana de Neuroradiologia (SILAN).  Dr Davila completed a two-year-fellowship in Paediatric Radiology at The Hospital for Sick Children (University of Toronto) in 2009.

Since January 2010, Dr Davila has been working as a staff Paediatric Radiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Ottawa. He is the Program Director of the Pediatric Radiology Fellowship Program and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Areas of interest: MR imaging of inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric neuroradiology and teaching.

Dr. H. Dunlap

Dr Hal Dunlap, CHEO

Dr. Hal Dunlap is currently a pediatric radiologist in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Dunlap joined the Pediatric Department of Medical Imaging at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 1987. He completed a 2-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology and MRI at The Hospital for Sick Children and Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program 1984.

His academic and research work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on MRI.

Dr. Julie Hurteau-Miller

Dr. Julie Hurteau-Miller, CHEO

Dr. Julie Hurteau-Miller is currently working as a pediatric radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Hurteau-Miller joined the Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 2000. She completed a 2-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at UCLA and LA Children’s Hospital and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at the University of Sherbrooke. Prior to joining the CHEO group, she was Assistant Professor in Department of Radiology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, McGill University.

Dr. K. Koujok

Dr K. Koujok, CHEO

Dr. Khaldoun Koujok is currently a pediatric radiologist in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Koujok joined the Pediatric Department of Medical Imaging at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 2007. He completed a one-year ACGME accredited fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at Damascus University, Damascus, Syria. He spent more than 5 years as a Lecturer of Radiology at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA after he completed his fellowship.

His academic work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on musculoskeletal imaging, particularly applications of cross-sectional imaging (Sonography, CT, MR), and Pediatric interventional procedures such as biopsies.

His research work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on musculoskeletal imaging.

Dr. M. Matzinger

Dr M. Matzinger, CHEO

Dr. Mary Ann Matzinger is currently a Pediatric Radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Matzinger joined the Pediatric Radiology Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 1988. She completed her Diagnostic Radiology training at the University of Toronto.

Her academic work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on pediatric musculoskeletal and urinary tract imaging and nuclear medicine.

Her research work focuses on pediatric bone health.

Dr. E. Miller

Dr. Elka Miller is currently the Chief/Medical Director and Research Director in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Associate Professor in the Radiology Department at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Elka Miller joined the Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 2009. She completed a 2-year fellowship in Pediatric Neuro-radiology and Pediatric Radiology at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Israel. Dr. Miller worked as a staff radiologist in Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center from 2002-2006 and at McMaster Children's Hospital, Hamilton, Canada from 2008-2009.

Her academic and research work focuses on Pediatric Radiology with an emphasis on Pediatric Neuro-radiology and MR Fetal Imaging.

Dr. R. Putnins

Dr. Rita Putnins is currently a pediatric radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor in the Radiology Department at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Putnins joined the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 2007. She completed a one-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at the University of Manitoba. Prior to arriving at CHEO, Dr Putnins worked at the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg and the Children’s Hospital of Calgary.

Her academic work focuses on general pediatric radiology.

Dr. C. Rotaru

Dr C. Rotaru, CHEO

Dr. Carmen Rotaru is currently a pediatric radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Carmen Rotaru joined the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in August 2009. She completed a 2-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at Bucharest, Romania in 2002. Before she immigrated to Canada, she worked as a staff radiologist at Hôpital Cardiologique et Pneumologique “Louis Pradel” in Lyon, France, specializing in chest radiology.

Her academic work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on chest radiology.

Her research work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on congenital heart diseases.

Dr. N. Shenouda

Dr N. Shenouda, CHEO

Dr. Nazih Shenouda is currently an Interventional Pediatric Radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor in the Radiology Department at the University of Ottawa. Dr Shenouda joined the Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 2004. He obtained his MSc at the Université de Montréal in 1987 and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at McGill University in 1992. His academic work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on Interventional and MSK. His research work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on pediatric bone health evaluation through STOPP (Steroid-induced Osteoporosis in the Pediatric Population) study, a Canadian incidence study.

Dr. K. Udjus

Dr K. Udjus, CHEO

Dr. Kristin Udjus is currently a pediatric staff radiologist in the Department of Medical Imaging at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Udjus joined the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in 1983. She completed a 1-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at CHEO and graduated from the Radiology Residency Program at the University of Ottawa.

Her academic and research work focuses on pediatric radiology with an emphasis on ultrasound.
