Faculty of Medicine Experts in the News
Friday, October 28, 2011 - Our Faculty experts were on hand this week to provide insightful commentary on other medical issues in the news.
CMAJ published an article on the introduction of a "poor tax" on wealthier Canadians as a measure to help improve mental health and provide basic necessities to at-risk individuals. Commentary provided by Dr. Elaine Jolly, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, shed light on the improvements needed on the current system of interaction between primary care providers and mental health systems.
CTV Ottawa's article on the overmedication of seniors quoted Dr. Barbara Farrell on the detrimental cycle of aging patients adding new medications to their current medications over long periods of time and leading to the possible overmedication of the aging population.
