Dr. Meridith Marks wins Capital Educators’ Award
Dr. Meridith Marks, Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine is among the 20 most innovative and respected City of Ottawa educators honoured during the seventh annual EduGala ceremony held on May 8, 2008.
Dr. Marks has been a member of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa since 1994. As a clinician educator, Dr. Marks has a clinical practice at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre, where she focuses on amputee rehabilitation. In this environment, she provides clinical education and supervision for medical students and physicians training to be specialists in rehabilitation medicine. She is sought out as a lecturer and a workshop presenter on topics related to rehabilitation medicine, teaching skills development and leadership development. As the Assistant Dean, Academy for Innovation in Medical Education (AIME), Dr. Marks is responsible for promoting scholarship and innovation in medical education within the Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Marks has a long-standing commitment to excellence in education and to promoting medical education as an academic pursuit nationally and internationally.
More than 280 educators were nominated for the awards by current and former students, colleagues, friends and family. A panel of judges chose 20 winners from the 66 finalists.
The Capital Educators’ Awards are open to educators employed by publicly funded elementary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities located within the boundaries of the City of Ottawa.
