Dr. Steven Gilberg appointed University Chair and Clinical Chief Department of Ophthalmology

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Jacques Bradwejn and the President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital, Dr. Jack Kitts are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Steven Gilberg as the university Chair and hospital Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology. Currently Acting Chair of the Department, Dr. Gilberg is taking on a full 5 year mandate. Amongst his duties, he will be responsible for the Ophthalmology academic program at TOH, CHEO, and the uOttawa Eye Institute.
Dr. Gilberg completed his undergraduate education and internship at the University of Toronto and his medical degree and residency at the University of Ottawa. He did a two-year Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. In 1992, Dr. Gilberg joined the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Ottawa with an appointment at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, The Ottawa Hospital. Dr. Gilberg is presently a member and Executive Secretary of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Test Committee in Ophthalmology. Since 1995, twelve fellows have been trained by Dr. Gilberg under the Fellowship Training Program in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The respective Boards of both institutions are expected to give final approval for these nominations in January 2010.
