Study Shows Link Between Video Gaming and Weight Gain Among Youth
Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - Department of Pediatrics professor Jean-Philippe Chaput made headlines this week with a study on the link between video games and weight gain with youth that was published in June in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Chaput conducted a study with 22 participating teenagers after only one hour of play and found that young video game players consumed an average of 163 calories a day more than other youth who were not involved in video gaming. Chaput further explained that this was cause for concern as "most youth can play video games for several hours a day" and most often within groups of friends, where youth tend to consume more calories in group settings.
