Dr. Ciarán Duffy appointed University Chair and Chief of Department of Paediatrics
The Dean of Medicine, Dr. Jacques Bradwejn, the CHEO Chief of Staff, Dr. Carrol Pitters, and the CHEO President and CEO, Michel Bilodeau, are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ciarán Duffy as the new Chair of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Ottawa and Chief of the Department of Paediatrics at CHEO.
Dr. Duffy is currently Professor and Associate Chairman of the Department of Paediatrics at McGill University, and Director of the Division of Rheumatology and Associate Paediatrician-in-Chief at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. After moving to Canada from Ireland, Dr. Duffy has done a research and clinical fellowship at the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, his paediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario in London, and a Master’s degree in Science (Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics) at McMaster University in Hamilton. He has a wide experience in teaching and is a very active researcher.
He will start on April 1st, 2011. Because Dr. Reisman will be stepping down on September 30, Dr. David Mack, Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, has been appointed Acting Chair/Chief of the Department of Paediatrics in the interim.
The respective Boards of both institutions are expected to give final approval for these nominations shortly.
