Dr. Gautam Honoured by Canadian Medical Association
University of Ottawa alum Dr. Mamta Gautam has become the first-ever recipient of the Physician Misericordia Award presented by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Dr. Gautam is being honoured for her outstanding contributions as a CMA member towards the health and well-being of physician colleagues at personal and professional levels.
Dr. Gautam has been practicing psychiatry and specializing in mental health for over 20 years, particularly in treating physicians in clinical practice. A medical graduate of the University of Ottawa, Dr Gautam is assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry at uOttawa. She was a director of the Faculty Wellness Program.
The success of the program has encouraged other medical schools to establish similar programs based on Gautam's work, as well as for the CMA's Center of Physician Health and Well-Being where Gautam serves as an expert advisor.
The Physician Misericordia Award was created by the Canadian Medical Association to recognize members of the association who have dedicated their work to providing better physical and mental care to working physicians in Canada.
