Dr. Davidson Awarded by the AACAP
University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine professor Dr. Simon Davidson is the recipient of the 2011 Catchers in the Rye Award to an Individual on behalf of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AAAP). The award recognizes leadership in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry."Being nominated by Dr. E. James Anthony for the 2011 Catchers in the Rye Award and being named the recipient is an honour and a privilege," said Davidson. "I share this award with several partners – youth experts, many professionals and above all my life partner. Getting Child and Youth Mental Health Services user-friendly, evidence informed, appropriately resourced and sustainable not only will mean substantially enhancing the life trajectories of our children and youth, but also improving mental health across the lifespan."
Davidson has dedicated his career in psychiatry to improving treatments for children, youth and families in Canada affected by mental health. Besides teaching at the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry at uOttawa, Davidson is also Chair of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University and Chair of the Child and Youth Advisory Committee for the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
He has applied his expertise elsewhere in Ottawa while serving as the Medical Director of the Mental Health Patient Service Unit at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Davidson is also the Regional Chief of the Specialized Psychiatric and Mental Health Services for Children and Youth, a partnership program between CHEO and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.
