The Dean is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Melissa A. Forgie as the new Assistant Dean, Student Affairs effective September 1, 2009.

Dr. Melissa Forgie is a hematologist who specializes in thromboembolic disorders. She is Program Director for the University of Ottawa’s Hematology Training Program and a clinician investigator within TOH and the OHRI. She is currently the francophone content expert for the undergraduate hematology curriculum and is an active lecturer in both the anglophone and francophone undergraduate curricula. Her research interests are in venous thromboembolic diseases, and in measures of quality of life particularly in anaemic patients. She is a strong advocate for diversity and represents the Department of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine’s Office for Equity, Diversity and Gender. She has received numerous teaching awards and patient care awards, and is a 2009 recipient of the Ottawa Hospital Physician Recognition Award.
