Dr. Bella Recognized as Alumni of Achievement by Alma Mater
Dr. Anthony Bella, assistant professor at the University of Ottawa, has been named by Wilfrid Laurier University as one of their 100 Alumni Achievement recipients as part of the university’s centennial year celebrations.
This recent recognition highlights Bella’s career as a world-renowned surgeon, researcher and educator. He has dedicated his research to creating new approaches that prevent and repair nerve damage which can occur during treatments for prostate cancer.
Bella was the first in Canada and fourth internationally to hold a chair in men’s health. The chair he holds is the Greta and John Hansen Chair in Men’s Health Research which was established by The Ottawa Hospital in 2010. His work has appeared in over 90 peer-reviewed publications and books across the globe. As a groundbreaking researcher in the field of urology, he has received many notable national and international research prizes which include the Emile Tanagho prize for Innovative Research and the California Urology Foundation Award for stem cell research.
In addition to his work as assistant professor in the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Bella is the director of Basic Urologic Research at the University and an associate scientist in neuroscience at the Ottawa Health Research Institute.
