The University of Ottawa launches ePhysicianHealth.com – the world’s first online physician health and wellness resource
Ottawa, October 15, 2009 – The University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine is launching the world’s first comprehensive, online physician health and wellness resource today that helps physicians be resilient in their professional and personal lives.
ePhysicianHealth.com delivers honest, practical advice from Canada’s leading physician health experts. The site is divided into 14 modules, each focusing on specific mental and physical health issues.
Developed by Dr. Derek Puddester, director of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine Wellness Program and Dr. Colla MacDonald from the Faculty of Education, this bilingual site provides cutting-edge, evidence based information for physicians seeking self-help or supporting colleagues.
“Nothing is taboo,” said Dr. Puddester. “Substance use disorders, anxiety, nutrition and fitness, depression, burnout, and suicide. The most personal subjects are addressed – with real solutions and readily available to Canadian physicians, anonymously, with a click of a mouse.”
Too often physicians put themselves last. This site gives physicians the chance to learn more about themselves and recognize warning signals – before it is too late. “With a serious shortage of physicians in Canada already, we cannot afford to lose one more,” said Dr. Henry Haddad, Chair of the Canadian Medical Foundation. “We want to ensure healthy physicians, which in turn will ensure healthy Canadians.”
Support for ePhysicianHealth.com was provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the University of Ottawa, the Canadian Medical Foundation and the Canadian Medical Association’s Centre for Physician Health and Well-being.
ePhysicianHealth.com is launched at the inaugural Canadian Conference on Physician Health in Vancouver.
