Dr. Gary R. Hollingworth, MD, CCFP, FCFP

Dr. Hollingworth completed his medical degree at the University of Ottawa and then his residency in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. During his career, he was active in the College of Family Physicians of Canada, as an examiner for the CFPC Certification Examinations. He was also a member of the Examinations Committee for nine years, including three years as Chair. Additionally, he was a member of the Test Committee in Psychiatry for the Medical Council of Canada.
He served as Medical Director of the Elisabeth Bruyere Family Medicine Centre for ten years and was periodically Acting Chair of the Department. In addition, he took a sabbatical year to study Orthopedic Medicine in England (London, Southampton and Salisbury), and upon his return, developed a musculoskeletal curriculum and an ongoing, ever popular ‘MSK teaching clinic’ for the residents in his department. He was also instrumental in leading, championing and developing an electronic medical health record for the Family Medicine Centre. He continues to maintain an active clinical practice, teaching students and residents in the Bruyère Continuing Care Family Medicine Centre.
More recently, Dr. Hollingworth became involved in the curriculum renewal process of the Faculty of Medicine and was appointed Director of Curriculum Content and Chair of the Curriculum Content Review Committee in 2007. He has always had a keen interest in the Admissions process of the Faculty of Medicine, having served on the Admissions Committee in the 1980’s and again from 1996 to the present. He has been involved in creating ethical scenarios, developing the interviewing template and leading the faculty development of the committee.
