uOttawa medical students to discuss social accountability at town hall meeting

ForumOttawa, September 8, 2008 – First year medical students at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, are kicking off their four year medical training by participating in the Social Accountability Forum: Role of the Physician in Today’s Society. The purpose of this town hall meeting is to allow new students to discuss the expectations and challenges they will be facing as practicing physicians as well as their broader concerns about the future of health care delivery in Canada.

“It is important that we encourage our students to think about their future role in the health care system. The Forum is a truly innovative aspect of the new curriculum introduced this fall that is centered on integration, social responsiveness and professionalism” says Dr. Geneviève Moineau, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education.

There will be a seven member panel and audience participants comprised of Ottawa University students, professors, leading health professionals and stakeholders discussing topics relevant to future Canadian doctors such as aboriginal health, women’s health and aging population issues.  The panel moderator is Mr. André Picard, award winning health reporter at The Globe and Mail.  The session will have simultaneous translation in English and French.
