The "Dr. Antoine Hakim Innovative Stroke Research" Award
In honour of Dr. Antoine Hakim, who was the founding Scientific Director of the Heart and Stroke Foundation Centre for Stroke Recovery in 2008, the Centre’s Advisory Board is pleased to announce the establishment of the Dr. Antoine Hakim Innovative Stroke Research Award.
This Award will recognize innovation in the field of cerebrovascular science with a particular
focus on stroke recovery. This award honours Dr. Hakim for the outstanding qualities of leadership, vision and innovation that he demonstrated during his tenure which resulted in spectacular growth for the Centre, both scientifically and organizationally.
Each year, all scientific Centre members will be eligible to compete for a newly-established $100,000 special project award named the Dr. A. Hakim Innovative Stroke Research Award. Applicants will be asked to submit a brief outline of an innovative, “out of box” research project focused on stroke recovery and must include how they believe this work, if funded, will impact stroke patients and/or their families. This award will be totally independent of any other current funding the applicants hold. The applications will be reviewed and adjudicated by the Centre’s Priorities and Planning Committee that Dr. Hakim established during his tenure. Dr. Hakim will be invited to participate in that review.
Further, each year, the successful recipient of the Dr. A. Hakim Award will be invited to the Annual General Meeting of the Centre where he/she will receive this award and will be invited to make a brief presentation describing his/her research project. Dr. Hakim will be invited to the AGM to make the presentation.
Dr. Antoine Hakim is the Director of the Neuroscience Research Institute and the University Division Head of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
