Rural Networks

In Ontario, the Ministry of Health supports the development of rural networks in order to facilitate, for medical learners, access to clinical rotations in both rural and smaller communities. These networks are the brokers for the DME program. They supply the resources to pay for travel and housing expenses, as well as preceptor stipends both for Undergraduate and Postgraduate learners.

All rural rotations must be approved by one of the networks. There are three “official” networks in Ontario, although a fourth one is often referred to even if it is actually a Medical School with the mandate to support rural practice.

Please note that each network has its own policies and deadlines for applications and cancellations. A breach of these policies is considered a breach of professionalism and will be reported to the Faculty. For individual network policies, please consult the respective networks’ Website.
