Eastern Regional Medical Education Program (ERMEP)
Located in Perth, this network is the most recently developed, working very closely with both Queen’s and Ottawa universities. In fact, the majority of the DME clerkship rotations that are available to Ottawa University students are ERMEP sites. ERMEP representatives are often involved in Faculty presentations to students on clerkship rotations and Rural Week. The University of Ottawa works closely with ERMEP to send its learners to the communities of Eastern Ontario, and recommends ERMEP sites first as part of its DME philosophy.

Application policy
All applications for student rotations must be submitted at least two months prior to the rotation start date; however, four months is suggested to increase the likelihood of a placement. Applications for specialty rotations must also be received no later than eight weeks prior to the rotation start date. Students and clerks are asked to find their own preceptor if electives are less than four weeks in duration; however, ERMEP can offer assistance in this matter. Credentialing and hospital privileges will be set up through ERMEP for all rotations, which explains why it is crucial for the application to be submitted promptly.

Cancellation Policy for Learners
When a preceptor is confirmed, the student is consulted as to whether the placement appears to be satisfactory. Once the student accepts, ERMEP considers it a breach of professionalism for a student to cancel a placement without a valid reason, less than four weeks from the start date of the rotation. A report of this misconduct is sent to the schools which are asked to deal with the unprofessional behavior.

Cancellation Policy for Networks
Confirmation of placement depends on preceptor and community availability. The preceptor and learner will be matched within four months to four weeks prior to the start date.
