Healthcare Education Scholars Program

The overall goal of the AIME Healthcare Education Scholars Program is to foster a sense of academic scholarship in healthcare education. The intent is to provide some theoretical scaffolding to those activities that our clinician educators take part in on a daily basis, as well as to promote a deeper understanding of how their activities relate to our goal of producing more effective healthcare providers. We aim to inspire innovation and scholarship among the participants, as well as develop a local community of scholars who can support each other, and ultimately provide leadership for the next generation of clinician educators.

Included Topics:

  1. Principles of Education and Learning: Principles of Adult Learning, the Nature of Expertise, and Transfer of Learning.
  2. Educational Assessment and Evaluation: Reliability and Validity, Item Writing, Competency Assessment, and Program Evaluation.
  3. Teaching Methods: Giving Effective Feedback and Simulation in Medical Education.
  4. Educational Research Methods and Approaches: Survey Research and Questionnaire Design, Research Design, Publishing and Funding in Healthcare Education, Qualitative Methods, and the Ethics Review Process.
  5. Leadership: Organizational Change, and Strategies for Capitalizing on Educational Leadership Opportunities.
